Review: This is NOT a book on basics. It should be titled Advanced Pyrography. No explanation of different burning tips, what they do and how to use them. I still have burning tips that I do not know how to use because no instructions came with them--not your fault, but I was hoping this book would give me useful information as a beginner. It did not. The techniques and exercises in this book are too complex for a beginner. I'd be happy just to do Micky Mouse. This book wants me to do a complex, detailed close-up of a tiger!

Review: I received this book as a Christmas gift and unfortunately it was not very helpful for me as I have a different type of wood burning gun Do not buy this book if you are using a wood burning gun that has different tip attachments like what you can buy from Michaels! This book is really meant for a traditional wood burning gun that does not have all the different letter stamps and tips that a craft wood burning gun has. The techniques become pretty irrelevant if you are not using the type of gun they show on the cover. It does seem like it would have some good information if you are using the correct type of gun and I did use some of the tips like having a scratch piece of wood to test on before you begin a project. I gave it three stars because I found it to need more detailed information. As a beginner, even with the correct gun, I was a little lost on how they did some of the techniques they showed in the pictures.

Review: I've been burning for a while but I recently purchased a Nibs Burner that has a lot more burning tips to work with. This book gave me a lot of shading and texturing techniques that made my artwork really come together.

Title: Starting at the Beginning

Review: So, I inherited a pyrography (wood burning) set. Sure, I had experience with wood burning, but that was more than sixty years ago. Obviously, I not only needed to brush up a bit, I had to start from the beginning, re-learning all that had been forgotten over six decades. That's where this book came in. And it accomplished the job very well. In fact, even if I were an expert wood burner, I would still add it to my library.
