Title: THE treasure chest guide to bringing an idea to market... buy this book!

Review: About 10 years ago I attended a licensing seminar in the SFO bay area. Stephen Key was speaking with the “inventright" group to about 50 people. His methodology as explained in this book is risk adverse, it puts the onus of bringing an idea to market on the manufacturer in terms of financial risk, getting them to pay for legal (patent) fees...you just collect a royalty for your “idea” and move onto the next. The book explains the pathway to earn without doing the grunt work.
At that time, regretfully... I had already started on the road to manufacturing so the advice I received at the seminar was valid, worthwhile and well understood but in my case essentially ignored. Fast forward 10 years and I receive a call from a manufacturer seeking to license my idea, I turned to the web of course for advice and tripped over this book. It was no surprise to me that it had well deserved A1 ratings. I naturally gravitated to this book since I knew of Stephen.
Many people have ideas but do not know how to go about getting them to market. Speaking from experience now, I can honestly say that if you are considering bringing a product to market you will need deep pockets (funding), it will suck up A LOT of time and energy, be extremely stressful dealing with manufacturers who change price, design spec, ship great prototypes but then totally mess up the big order…. the list is endless and something I never want to go through again. Not to mention marketing! You could have the best product in the world but unless you can get on Shark Tank or can afford to pay many thousands of dollars to market it then nobody will know about it. Needless to say, it can all be avoided by following Stephen Keys advice in this book. It breaks down the barriers of how to go about contacting the BIG GUNS who already have the distribution networks in place with Walmart, Target, Costco etc….
After reading this book I reached out to Stephen via email to thank him, I was truly excited and inspired. I also told him my situation with the licensing possibility. He called me almost immediately, he was delighted for the positive feedback of course but moreover was enthusiastic to help me out…. I am now on the way to securing a licensing deal.
Everyone has seen the invention ads on TV that should be avoided like the plague. Stephen is the real deal, aside from being extremely successful (likely not from selling the book) he wants to see others succeed. This book has now become a my gift of choice for family and friends, everyone at some point has One Simple Idea… it’s what your going to do with it that matters!

Title: Working on two ideas now!

Review: I run my own writing business but, due to changes in the publishing industry (and desire to find a business model that doesn't involve trading my time for money) I stumbled across this book. As others have said, it was a little repetitive, but I found it very clear, helpful and encouraging.
I read the book all the way through, created a step-by-step guide for myself based on the material in the book, and am working on my first two products. I'll come back with an update once I'm further along in the process, because I'd have loved to have heard from other reviewers if they've put the information into practice and how that went. I'm scared, skeptical, hopeful and excited. Once I've actually done all the steps outlined in the book, for multiple products, I'll be able to give more helpful and detailed info to others considering buying the book.
It seems that the author is one of the few people out there really explaining licensing to newbies. Before I heard of him, I didn't even realize this was a thing. I'm the type of person who constantly has ideas, and I thought they were worthless. I would be walking along with my husband or driving along with him, and I'd say, "You know what product should exist?" I was annoyed at my brain for being the type to come up with ideas but not wanting to build businesses to make them happen. It's not that I don't want to put in work, it's just that I'd rather come up with and develop a bunch of ideas than commit to one idea and take on building a business, finding investors, locating a manufacturer, etc. etc. Stephen Key is the first person I've encountered who has articulated that there are others out there like this, and it's not a bad thing.
Anyway, I'm at the sales sheet and prototype creation step for my two ideas, and I'm hoping this turns out to be a viable way to make a living, as Mr. Key states in his book. I'm having so much fun, but the question is whether it will pay off.
Oh, one small criticism of this book is that, while there is a lot of repetition, there are major things that aren't included, such as details on how to create and NDA and what it should include, just for one example. Overall, great book.

Title: Not Every Inventor Should or Wants to Become an Entrepreneur, So Read This book

Review: I am a serial entrepreneur and businessman with four high tech startups and two licensing deals to my name over the last 35 years. I just finished reading the book. I find it to be refreshing, enjoyable to read, factual and I agree with all of the recommendations made by the author. The book is written in plain English and should be on the required reading list of entrepreneurship classes/courses. Not every inventor should become be an entrepreneur. But Licensing is not easy, negotiating a win-win deal and enforcing the terms and conditions are tasks that many inventors are not comfortable with or interested to do. My only additional suggestion for the book therefore is to encourage inventors to seek mentors, team up and do not go it alone. Also, as the author mentions there is significant overlap in the initial planning steps of validating an invention before licensing an idea and starting your own venture. Use this book, as a check list and a refresher every time before launching a new product. Finally, you can as an inventor have your own start up and license products too in order to reach a wider range of consumers for various other applications of your invention. Plan, Persist, Play and Profit.
